The MIND Diet: An Antioxidant Shield for Multiple Sclerosis

12/07/2025

Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a chronic neuroinflammatory disease characterized by immune attacks on the brain and spinal cord, but oxidative stress also plays a significant role. A new clinical trial published in Frontiers in Nutrition examined whether a targeted dietary intervention could help.

Over 8 weeks, women with MS followed the MIND diet—a blend of the Mediterranean and DASH diets specifically designed to promote brain health. The results were impressive: participants saw significant improvements in total antioxidant status, along with reductions in body weight, BMI, and waist circumference.

These findings support the growing idea that nutrition can play a role in managing MS. While not a replacement for medical therapy, a diet rich in leafy greens, nuts, fish, and olive oil may offer additional benefits in controlling inflammation and oxidative damage.
