Light pollution: risk of Alzheimer's

09/09/2024

A recent study has found a positive correlation between nighttime light pollution and the prevalence of Alzheimer's disease (AD) in the United States.

Researchers discovered that higher levels of light at night are associated with increased AD rates, particularly among individuals under the age of 65.

For those aged 65 and older, light pollution was a significant risk factor, although other health issues like diabetes and high blood pressure showed stronger associations. The findings highlight that light pollution is a modifiable environmental factor, suggesting that simple measures such as blackout curtains and blue light filters could help reduce AD risk.
